UCC/EAN -
128
This symbology is based on the Code 128 with some additional
features, in order to be used for shipping containers identification. When printing SCC-14
or SCC-18 (Shipping Container Codes), the UCC/EAN-128 symbology must be used.
In the construction of barcodes using this symbology, some
additional characters built into the symbol (start code followed by the Function Code 1)
are non human readable, but will tell the scanner that is an UCC/EAN-128 barcode. Data in
the barcode is always preceded by one Application Identifier (AI), that specifies the
content of the field.
